Ansel Adams was born in Feb. 20 1902. He was from an emotionally and socially conservative family. One of the many things that Ansel is known for is his nose. They call it his 'earthquake nose', because when he was a young boy he and his family endured the fire and earthquake of 1906, and he was flung to the ground and damaged his nose. Ansel was also not a very good student. He was said to be very hyperactive, and maybe even dyslexic.Even though his parents sent him to various schools, he did not succeed. He was a shy and quite genius. This, and the nose, made it kind of hard to fit in. He eventually attended private school, and graduated with his legitimizing diploma. Ansel Adams also had a love and talent for music. At the age of twelve, he began to take lessons and he only got better from there. He actually became a substitute teacher for a formal school. He also became an important business man, with a a club he called The Sierra Club. This man later became a incredibly famous and talented artist. One of his many art pieces is called monolith, the Face of Half Dome. This was created in 1927, and it has become one of his most famous and popular photos. In the 1930's, Ansel traveled to New York to meet with another famous photographer named Alfred Stieglitz. This was a great idea, seeing as how he later came up with His first series of technical articles and they were published in Camera Craft in 1934. His first widely distributed book.Another fact about Ansel was that he was involved in yet another fire in 1037 called the Darkroom fire. Here he lost several of his photographs. I chose this picture by Ansel Adams because I thought it was incredible beautiful. He did such a magnificent job at getting bright whites and dark blacks, not just gray. Ansel Adams died in Apr.22 1984, but his art is still as marvelous as ever.
